5 Window Styles That Are Best for Kitchens

As the busiest part of the house, the kitchen needs windows that are practical and easy to use, without sacrificing features such as natural lighting and ventilation. In today’s post, Ganser Company takes a look at the ideal kitchen window styles.

1. Sliding windows. Sliding windows are sleek and space-saving, perfect for areas above sinks or counters where space is limited. The sashes glide horizontally along a track, which makes them easy to operate — a handy feature when you’re busy and can only have one hand to spare. Yard-facing sliding windows are also great as a service window when you’re having a backyard gathering.

2. Casement windows. Casement windows allow full use of the window area, making them ideal for providing ventilation. The hinged vertical design allows you to catch a side breeze when opened at an angle, or you can open it fully when you need to vent smoke from the oven. Casement windows also allow an unimpeded view of the outdoors — whether you need to keep an eye on your kids at play, or want to enjoy a nice view while having breakfast at your bar counter.

3. Bay and bow windows. Bay and bow windows are protruding window styles that can add usable space to your kitchen. It can provide additional storage space, can be used as a display space, or as a banquette for a dining table.

4. Garden windows. Like bay and bow windows, garden windows protrude from the exterior wall, but are much smaller and have a glass canopy. They’re intended for displaying potted cooking herbs or decorative plants indoors, while allowing exposure to sunlight. Garden windows also help allow natural light into the kitchen.

5. Double-hung windows. The traditional double-hung windows are versatile and work in just about any room, including the kitchen. It can even provide airflow in small kitchens where only one window can be opened at a time. When buying replacement double-hung windows, choose those with a counterweight built into the frame, as it helps lifting sashes much easier.
